The Georgia State Chapter board of directors approved the following Hunting Heritage proposals for funding in 2009/2010:
1. Deposit into the NWTF Georgia land Acquisition fund - $22,300 approved
2. Funding to provide a biologist that works with the State Chapter to oversee all the projects that receive superfund money--$10,000 approved
3. JAKES, Women in the Outdoors, and Wheelin’ sportsmen outreach programs - $25,000 approved
4. Georgia State NWTF seed subsidy program - $7,800 approved
5. Georgia youth sports shooting programs (4H, Archery in schools program, etc.)- $5500 approved
6. NWTF chapter scholarship program - $6000 approved
7. Cost share with DNR of a K-9 unit for Georgia--$3000 approved
8. Funding to help purchase seed and fertilizer for 10 acres of openings on Paulding Forest/Sheffield WMA- $2000 approved
9. Funding for prescribed burning equipment for DNR Game management Region 1--$4000 approved
10. Purchase two hog traps to be used on North East Georgia WMA’s--$700 approved
11. Funding to Restore tornado damage: Longleaf planting (26ac), 100 soft mast tree planting, 10ac food plots(annual/perennial), create wildlife opening (9ac) on Beaver Dam WMA--$2500 approved
12. Funds to help purchase seed and fertilizer for 10 acres of openings on Penholloway WMA - $2500 approved
13. Provide funding to assist with Cedar Creek shooting range on Oconee National Forest--$3500 approved
14. Provide DNR Law Enforcement with funds to build 68 DNA sample kits to build statewide turkey DNA database--$1150 approved
15. Wild turkey education boxes for schools in Georgia - $1000 approved
16.Funding for prescribed burning equipment for Georgia Forestry units in south east Georgia--$4000 approved
Administered jointly by the NWTF, its state chapters and state wildlife agencies, the Hunting Heritage Super Fund is used for projects that support the conservation of the wild turkey and preservation of the hunting tradition. Since 1985, Georgia has been among the leaders in the Nation in total Super fund amounts, totals raised and spent. Currently, over $3,220,977 has been raised and spent by Georgia chapters on projects within the state.
